Study of Psalms – Psalm 6

Psalm 6

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

“My soul is in anguish. How long, O Lord, how long?” (Psalm 6:3) Today’s Psalm focuses on that time between when we have prayed for something and we are waiting for God’s answer. Psalm 6 is an individual lament psalm of David’s and it shows how mental, emotional, and spiritual anguish can also affect one’s physical well-being. Both the waiting and the physical illness that accompany uncertainty are certainly familiar to us in these days.
I pray this psalm causes us to remember that our Lord does indeed deliver us as we see in verses 8-10 of the psalm. Though we lose sleep and even “flood our bed with tears” (Psalm 6:6), the Lord is with us and will act.
