Divine Service for the Feast of the Ascension

Order of Worship for Feast of the Ascension

Brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today is the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord. Normally, we move this celebration to the nearest Sunday, but since we are recording the services ahead of time, we have the opportunity to observe this day in its proper place. The Ascension of our Lord is an important event to commemorate as it reminds us that Jesus has gone to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father and that is a place of advantage for the Church. There at the right hand of God, Christ rules over His Church through His means of grace and there also He makes intercession for us.

Additionally, Christ’s ascension to heaven carries with it the promise of our own. Our last hymn for this day says it well. “On Christ’s Ascension I now build the hope of my ascension.” Christ’s resurrection was the promise of our own and Christ’s ascension fulfills the promise He made in John 14 to go and prepare a place for us. I pray that this worship opportunity will comfort you as we look forward to our own ascension because of Christ!

In Christ’s name and service,

Pastor Robert Weller
