Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today we continue our study of Psalm 22. If you have not yet looked at the intro lesson for Psalm 22 I recommend you do that before this study. Psalm 22 is a messianic psalm and we see many connections from the psalm to the events of Good Friday. In today’s lesson we will look at verse 1-21 of the psalm, which comprises the lament. This part of the psalm not only gives us a lens into the emotional pain of our Savior upon the cross as He utters, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?â€, but it gives voice to our own emotional pain as we experience difficulties and trials in this life. The psalm is both a lament and a prayer for God to draw near. I pray that this study is helpful to you.
As a reminder we will continue this twice a week Psalms study through the month of August. Then in September we will have these Psalms studies issued once a week and have a online Zoom bible study on Thursday nights beginning September 10th. I am still taking suggestions for topics for that online study so please email me and let me know what you would like.
In Christ’s name and service,
Pastor Robert Weller
